家好月圓慶中秋。

till now i've watched til ep3 of moonlight resonance and i will definitely recommend it to anyone who have watched HOG or anyone who likes tvb drama. on the overall they are following the blueprint of HOG: family, small wife big wife and a bunch of good looking kids.

but of course they have changed some stuff la. first the way they narrate is a little different. like how i said in my last post, they choose to jump between different timeline to tell the story. first they show u what's happening now and then to use the past to explain what has caused all to be like this today. this type of narration shows some resemblance to infernal affairs3. it gets a little confusing la. especially when jumping from 2008 to 1995 then 2008 again then 1996, i get a little lost which comes before which when i dont take note of the year. but i felt what they did well was to bring out the feel of maybe 1995 [when i was still in primary1. hahahahahaha.] and so the audience dont get too disorientated.

and secondly, i think they are trying the japanese way of storytelling in their dramas. there is a main plot that runs in all the episode. but for each episode, there is an important incident/event that will end at the end of the episode. for example in ep3, the story for that episode is abt the grandpa wanting a reunion dinner during the mid autumn festival and also about the death of hayu's little brother. the conflict and resolution of this certain incident happens in one single episode. quite interesting because you dont really see this type of storytelling in hk dramas.

many of the characters retained their personality they had in HOG. there is some significant switching in the characters but the main plotline is very much similar. like for moses chan, he is no longer an uneducated person who works in his father's shop. instead he is very much educated but still retains very much of duk duk dei's character.

and following HOG, they are still choosing to use famous canto songs as background songs maybe as an aid in narration. like when they were talking about hayu's brother who loves watching A better tomorrow [by chow yun fatt and leslie cheung] they were playing leslie cheung's 當年情 in the background which is the theme song for a better tomorrow. somehow i think how HOG could work out so well with their audience is also the strong use of hongkong elements that the audience could relate to.
